Who buys packaging in Worcester
Worcester lies in the Breede River Valley, one of the largest areas for wine grapes, deciduous fruit and table grapes in the Western Cape. Packhouses around Worcester, De Doorns and Rawsonville pack grapes, pears, apples and plums for export, using corrugated cartons, trays, liners and pallet wrap in very large volumes at harvest. Wineries and brandy producers need bottles, cartons and dividers. Food processors and the industrial area in town buy tubs, bags and general cartons. Many suppliers deliver from Cape Town and Paarl, about an hour and a half away, and seasonal stock is often reserved in advance. Summers are very hot, so cooling and shade matter.
Typical packaging tape requests in the area come from:
- Farms, packhouses and nurseries: sealing produce cartons in packhouses where damp and cold affect adhesion
- Restaurants, takeaways and food producers: closing cartons of dry goods and bakery boxes, with cold-grade tape for fridges
- Warehouses, distributors and exporters: high volume rolls for carton sealing and export boxes, plus warning tape
- Factories and manufacturers: closing cartons on packing lines, and bundling parts or sealing film edges
- Shops and retail stores: sealing returns, stock cartons and online order boxes in the back room
- Online shops and ecommerce: sealing outbound parcels, with printed tape to show the shop name on every box
