Who buys packaging in Johannesburg
Johannesburg is the country's largest commercial centre, and packaging demand here is broad. Wholesalers, food manufacturers, printers and light factories in the southern and eastern industrial areas buy cartons, film and tape by the pallet, while online shops and retailers across the northern suburbs need courier bags, mailer boxes and gift packaging in smaller runs. Soweto and the inner city have many small traders and food vendors who need takeaway containers and paper bags. Gauteng's road network makes it easy to move stock to Pretoria, the East Rand and further afield, and many packaging suppliers and box makers are based in the south and west of the city, so quotes are quick to compare.
Typical paper bags requests in the area come from:
- Factories and manufacturers: heavy duty paper bags for packing hardware, spices and dry ingredients
- Shops and retail stores: carrier bags with handles for clothes, gifts and homeware at the till
- Online shops and ecommerce: kraft bags and inserts for gift orders, thank-you items and local delivery
- Restaurants, takeaways and food producers: SOS, flat and greaseproof bags for bread, chips, pastries and takeaway meals
- Warehouses, distributors and exporters: bundled bags in cartons stored flat to save warehouse space
- Households and offices moving: paper bags for packing small items, shoes and linen, and keeping them sorted
- Cosmetics, candles and health products: small branded bags for soaps, candles and boutique skincare purchases
