Who buys packaging in Kariega
Kariega, formerly Uitenhage, is a motor industry town. A large vehicle assembly plant and a cluster of component suppliers shape local demand, and the Coega SEZ and the Gqeberha port are close by. Packaging here is largely industrial: protective inserts, foam, strong cartons, pallets, strapping and returnable packs that move parts between factories and to the port. Wool and other products from the Karoo and Eastern Cape pass through nearby, along with citrus from the Sundays River Valley, which need export cartons and pallet wrap. Retailers and food sellers in the town buy bags and containers. Many suppliers deliver from Gqeberha, which is a short drive away. The area can be dry and windy.
Typical custom printed boxes requests in the area come from:
- Factories and manufacturers: one colour printed cartons with handling marks for pallets of finished goods
- Warehouses, distributors and exporters: printed cartons with handling and orientation marks for export
- Farms, packhouses and nurseries: printed fruit and vegetable cartons for packhouses and farm brands
- Shops and retail stores: full colour folding cartons and white boxes to display and carry products
- Restaurants, takeaways and food producers: printed bakery, snack and sauce cartons for retail shelves and hampers
- Online shops and ecommerce: branded mailer boxes and printed shipping cartons that open well on a doorstep
