Who buys packaging in Kariega
Kariega, formerly Uitenhage, is a motor industry town. A large vehicle assembly plant and a cluster of component suppliers shape local demand, and the Coega SEZ and the Gqeberha port are close by. Packaging here is largely industrial: protective inserts, foam, strong cartons, pallets, strapping and returnable packs that move parts between factories and to the port. Wool and other products from the Karoo and Eastern Cape pass through nearby, along with citrus from the Sundays River Valley, which need export cartons and pallet wrap. Retailers and food sellers in the town buy bags and containers. Many suppliers deliver from Gqeberha, which is a short drive away. The area can be dry and windy.
Typical gift boxes requests in the area come from:
- Factories and manufacturers: rigid presentation boxes for watches, tools and corporate gifts
- Warehouses, distributors and exporters: outer cartons and pallets for moving gift boxes in bulk to retailers
- Farms, packhouses and nurseries: wine, olive oil and preserve boxes for farm shops and tourist outlets
- Shops and retail stores: plain and printed gift boxes for jewellery, homeware and clothing counters
- Restaurants, takeaways and food producers: chocolate, biscuit and hamper boxes with food-safe trays and liners
