Who buys packaging in Welkom
Welkom grew around the Free State goldfields, and its packaging demand is tied to mining services, farming and local trade. Engineering workshops and mining suppliers ship parts and equipment in strong cartons and wrapped pallets, although the industry has shrunk over the years. Surrounding maize, sunflower and livestock farms create demand for bags and bulk packaging. Local bakeries, butcheries and wholesalers buy food packaging, while shops and small online sellers use bags, cartons and courier packaging. Packaging suppliers serve the area from Welkom itself, from Bloemfontein and from Johannesburg, so buyers often combine orders to reduce delivery cost.
Typical custom printed boxes requests in the area come from:
- Farms, packhouses and nurseries: printed fruit and vegetable cartons for packhouses and farm brands
- Shops and retail stores: full colour folding cartons and white boxes to display and carry products
- Restaurants, takeaways and food producers: printed bakery, snack and sauce cartons for retail shelves and hampers
- Factories and manufacturers: one colour printed cartons with handling marks for pallets of finished goods
- Warehouses, distributors and exporters: printed cartons with handling and orientation marks for export
- Online shops and ecommerce: branded mailer boxes and printed shipping cartons that open well on a doorstep
